 Genesis 1

“I will make something out of nothing!”

Imagine the reaction of a restaurant if I, quite suddenly, exclaimed this while leaping on top of a table. I’d imagine there would also be the flailing of my arms and a wide expression on my face… In true dramatic fashion, I would probably effectively convince everyone that I was crazy.

I can only imagine that this is what God would’ve done if there would’ve been people on earth at the time of creation. Well, that is before Adam and Eve.

Think about it for a moment. This creator, the Alpha and Omega, has created EVERYTHING we see! Literally everything. Sure we (as humans) have constructed skyscrapers and airplanes and cars, but those raw materials had to come from somewhere. The iron, wood, titanium, brick… not to mention the human intellect and desire it takes to build such intricate machines, and whew our brains are one complex organic matter.

Let me be real here though, it isn’t the vastness or intensity of God’s creation that gets me, it’s the fact that God created all out of love that which is good (if you don’t believe me, read Genesis 1). But, even more so than that, God has never needed us, nor did He just want to entertain Himself prancing us about like toy puppets or like a pompous artist would draw attention to his work: “Look at what I can do!” No, He wanted us! The omnipresent God wanted you! He wanted me. We are His children and this world is a gift to us.

That sunset with deep golden hues is yours.

That majestic mountain which soars to the sky in reverence of our creator is yours.

This nutritious earth with bountiful plants and animals is yours.

The vastness of our world ready for exploration is yours.

Those amazing (and sometimes really annoying) family members are yours.

God has created all of these things for you.

“Creation is of the order of love. God’s love is the fundamental moving force in all created things: ‘For you love all things that exist, and detest none of the things that you have made; for you would not have made anything if you had hated it’ (Wisdom 11:24).”

My dear sisters, take some time today outside in nature. If it requires a bit of a drive, I challenge you to make that sacrifice. Once you are there, pray this prayer: “God, you have made ALL of this for me. You love me!” Pray this until you believe it, and give Him thanks! Oh my dear sisters, give Him so much thanks.
